Based in Washington, DC
Fernando Barrientos is a self-taught artist from El Salvador, working with colored pencils on cotton paper, attempting to recreate realistic drawings.
His interest for photo-realism started in high school after admiring a realism painting by Ralph Goings. He felt in love with the illusion and how easily the mind it is tricked. Since then, he has taught himself to recreate those illusions with his own work. He decides to leave the meaning of his work open to interpretation, but believes that whatever is the subject it will have a personal connection. His work is inspired by emotions, nostalgia, mental health, behavior or every day objects.
